Great news that Téléverbier has committed to the replacement of the Les Attelas - Mont Gelé cable car from mid-June 2017. The new lift should be operational from mid December 2017.
Work is continuing apace this summer in Verbier on the replacement cable car for Mont-Gelé, which has whisked freeriders up to the 3,023m summit from Attelas since 1959.
The Mont-Gelé cable car was first built in 1959 and last season reached its age limit, with work going on this summer to replace the popular ski lift before December 2017 and the start of the next ski season.
Mont-Gelé is is believed to be the first cable car of its kind to give access to off-piste terrain. It has long been a favourite of expert skiers and snowboarders in search of some of Verbier’s famous couloirs and off-piste — with fantastic routes down virtually every aspect of the mountain.
While the lift is being upgraded — to the cost of CHF5.2million — capacity will not be improved. The new cable car will hold 45 people, with an uplift capacity of 400 people per hour.
